The Detroit Jazz Festival is a free jazz festival held every year during Labor Day Weekend at Hart Plaza and Campus Martius Park in Detroit, Michigan. Super fun Michigan summer event and celebration of music!

Karriem Riggins was awarded Artist-in-Residence for the 2023 Detroit Jazz Festival. Riggins is a renowned jazz musician, producer, DJ, and EMMY Award winner from Detroit, Michigan.  Watch him perform during the April 12 Preview Event which will be livestreamed for free on detroitjazzfest.org. 2. Detroit Movement Festival in Hart Plaza (Movement Electronic Music Festival)


When: The festival takes place over Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday, May 27, 2023 - Monday, May 29, 2023.

Where: Movement is held in downtown Detroit in Hart Plaza, 1 Hart Plaza, Detroit, MI 48226.

There will be 115+ acts on 6 stages over three day!

  • The Movement Stage, located in the amphitheater, is where you’ll see the big players, the legends.

  • The Pyramid Stage is positioned opposite the Waterfront Stage along the river.

5. Marshall Blues Festival 2023 (Michigan Blues Festival) Southern Michigan

Where: Downtown Marshall, 323 W Michigan Avenue, Marshall, MI 49068. Michigan avenue will be closed to traffic during this fun Michigan Music Festival!

12. 41st Annual Polka Festival (Cedar Polka Fest 2023)

When: August 24-27, 2023

Where: The Village of Cedar is located 13 miles Northwest of Traverse City, and 5 miles north of M-72. The festival is under the ‘Big Tent’ on the Cedar Tennis Courts just off County Road 651.  At the 4-way stop in the center of downtown Cedar, turn East on to Sullivan Street. 3075 E Sullivan St. Cedar, MI

The 41st Annual Polka Festival celebrates the towns rich Polish history. Over the 4 days and nights, nearly 10,000 people eat, drink, and dance the nights away.

Only service animals are allowed under the ‘Big Tent’ at the Cedar Polka Festival.


13. Muskegon Irish Music Festival 2023

When: Michigan Irish Music Festival will take place from Thursday, September 14, 2023, through Sunday, September 17, 2023 Heritage Landing in Muskegon, MI.

Where: Heritage Landing in Muskegon, MI.

Here's your chance to experience rich Irish culture! Check out the exhibit from the Ward Music Archives on “Irish in Film."  

Irish dancing is not to be missed at the Festival:

  • Friday at 6pm: Discover “Hooley” style of social dancing. 
  • Saturday at 7:30pm is the Parade of Champions featuring the winners of the Michigan Feis competition held earlier on Saturday.
  • Sunday the Ardan Academy of Irish Dance will perform three different shows, following a presentation by Kitty Heinzman on the History of Irish Dance.

Learn how to play a bodhran and penny whistle and enjoy poetry, song, and hands-on activities to learn about long-standing Irish crafts such as Crios belt weaving and spinning.

16. Big Country Fest - Frankenmuth

Michigan's Big Country Fest-September 29 - September 30, 2023, 5pm - midnight. Heritage Park, 601 Weiss St, Frankenmuth, MI.  This festival will be held inside the Harvey Kern Community Pavilion. It is a fully enclosed pavilion so it’s protected from the weather with heat. Stop in for drinks at the bar, food trucks, vendors, free line-dancing lessons, cornhole, games and contests, photo booth, souvenirs, bloody Mary bar, and more exciting attractions!

17. St Clair Art Fair and Jazz Festival 2023

20. 17th Porcupine Mountains Music Festival - Upper Peninsula

Where: The Porcupine Mountains Music Festival is located at the Winter Sports Complex (ski hill and chalet area) of the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The address is 36606 Carp Lake Tower Road, Ontonagon, MI 49953.

22. 2023 Wheatland Music Festival (Mid Michigan, Near Mt. Pleasant)

When: This year’s 3-day 50th Anniversary Wheatland Music Festival takes place September 8-10, 2023.

Where: 7251 50th Ave, Remus, MI 49340. Enter at Main Gate on Pierce Rd.  The Wheatland Music Festival is located 22 miles West of Mt Pleasant and 23 miles East of Big Rapids.

Each year, thousands of people converge on the 160-acre festival site to enjoy a wide variety of traditional arts, workshops, demonstrations, dances, and impromptu jam sessions as well as the stage performances, juried arts and crafts, and a wide variety of food. 23. Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival: Marquette Michigan, Upper Peninsula

When: July 21-23, 2023

Where: Marquette, Michigan, at Tourist Park

The Hiawatha Festival is the only event of its size and scope in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. This Upper Peninsula music event features traditional-music styles that include Bluegrass, Old-Timey, Cajun, Celtic, acoustic Blues, and Folk - including singer/songwriters.  It also features traditional dance styles. 24. BluesFest Michigan

When: September 14, 2023 - September 16, 2023

Where: Michigan Institute for Contemporary Art/MICA, 1210 Turner St., Lansing, MI

BluesFest Michigan is an incredible two-day, open-air festival in Old Town of Lansing, Michigan. Enjoy diverse styles of Blues, attracting well-known and up-and-coming musicians from across the state and around the world. There will be lots of interactive family friendly activities as well.


25. Uncle Sam Jam Fest


When: Uncle Sam Jam Fest – Woodhaven, July 6-9, 2023.
