South Haven Lighthouse and Pier in Southwest Michigan on Lake Michigan | By Sherry Trautman | Travel-Mi.com | Updated October 14, 2022

If you are a lover of scenic Michigan lighthouses like me, you will immediately fall in love with the South Haven Michigan Lighthouse and pier.  Chris and I love to sit in the shade of the pier and watch beautiful boats of all kinds enter and exit the channel.

If you happen to visit this popular Southwest Michigan beach town when the clouds are puffy white and the skies are blue, you can capture some magical red lighthouse photos!

Can you go in the South Haven Lighthouse?

No, but you can walk around it and sit and watch the passing boats.

When Was the South Haven Michigan Lighthouse Built?

Per Wikipedia, the station was lit in 1872 and is still operational.

You can see the keeper's house (also built in 1872) located at 91 Michigan Avenue, South Haven, Michigan.  The house has been under the care of the city since 2000. The Michigan Maritime Museum renovated this keeper's house as the Marialyce Canonie Great Lakes Research Library.

South Haven Lighthouse Directions, Parking and Map

Zoom in on the map above (it also includes lots of Things to Do in South Haven).

We recommend parking at the South Beach parking area as it is very close to the beginning of the South Haven pier.

The address for the South Beach parking lot is: 60 Water St, South Haven, MI 49090

There is a parking fee of about $10 at the beach parking lot and it fill up quickly during the summer so if you want beach parking I suggest being there by 11:00 am. When you pay for parking at the nearby kiosk, be sure to know your license plate number. You can pay by credit card.
