1. Anderson & Girls Orchards (Northeast of Grand Rapids)

OPENS mid-May through the summer months. A top pick for many families, Anderson and Girls have a great petting zoo with fun farm animals such as goats (Pygmy, Nigerian Dwarf), Miniature Yak, Dromedary Camels, coatimundi, birds, owls, porcupines, fennec fox, bobcats, reindeer and more! 

  • Anderson and Girls have over 140 animals and 14 different species of birds! 

Their petting zoo is free with the opportunity to buy grain to feed the goats. They are only open during spring and summer seasons so be sure to check out their website for hours. It's one of our favorite Michigan petting zoos!


2. Barn Sanctuary (West of Ann Arbor, Michigan) See Goats, Sheep and Pigs!

3. Blake's Orchard & Cider Mill (East Michigan in the Thumb!) Great Place to Visit with Kids!

4. Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park - Zoo and Petting Farms

See birds, animals, reptiles and book their VIP animal encounters! 

Boulder Ridge is open May through October.

Venture through the reptile house and also see ostrich, lemurs, kangaroos, monkeys, alligators.  Definitely be sure to see the bird aviary which is something Chris and I love to see. My nephew LOVED holding the bunnies, he was so sad when we needed move on!  You can brush and feed their cute goats too in their petting zoo.  

  • After feeding birds on sticks, go to Boulder Ridge's petting zoo to see Boulder Ridge’s cute new animals or possibly pet a baby zebra, wildebeest, or water buffalo! It's one of our favorite Michigan petting zoos!

5. Bower's Farm School-Learn to Milk a Goat!

Register early for Summer Day Camp! Bower's Farm School has animals such as sheep, horses, cattle, and goats graze the pastures.

6. Calder Dairy and Farm - Southeast Michigan (South of Detroit) See Cows Being Milked!

This neat Michigan dairy farm is located just west of Monroe Michigan. 

You can see ducks, goats, cows and feed the cute farm animals.  In the spring you can feed their baby cows. 

  • The farm is open to the public 7 days a week, all year long, with spring and summer being their busy seasons. This Michigan dairy farm produces milk that is home delivered or you can pick it up at our store or farm.  Be sure to stop into their farm store to buy fresh ice cream, milk, butter and yogurt.

7. Children's Pony Ranch - Go on Pony Rides!

8. Chippewa Nature Center - Homestead Farm

During the spring and summer months, visit Chippewa Nature Center's Homestead! They have a variety of cute animals, the pigs are my favorite.  They may have goats and cows too!


Be sure to visit Chippewa Nature Center during their Maple Syrup Days, it's fantastic!

9. Cotton Creek Farms (Alpaca Farm!)

Cotton Creek Farms (alpaca farm) address - 11885 Jewell Rd, Thompsonville, MI 49683.

Cotton Creek Farms is an Huacaya alpaca farm located in Thompsonville, which is just south of Traverse City and on the border of Buckley in Northwestern Michigan.

Visit Cotton Creek Farms to see their alpacas and maybe a llama! April – December, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. 

  • Public alpaca tours are held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm.
  • Advanced booking is required for attendance.

They are closed on major holidays.  You can feed and pet these cute farm critters too! Definitely worthy of our favorite Michigan Petting Zoos!


10. Country Dairy Farm Store - West Michigan (Northwest of Grand Rapids)

Country Dairy Farm Store - 3724 S 80th Ave, New Era, MI 49446

Farm tours at Country Dairy Farm occur during the summer tour season from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Tours will last approximately 60-85 minutes depending on the tour.

  • You can ride in their wagon to go see and pet calves and young stock, see the robotic milking system, and observe the cows in our free-stall barns.

This year they will have a Calf Encounter! Lots of family friendly farm experiences everyone will love!


11. Come and See Farm: See Christine, Their Giant Pig!

You gotta come see their giant pig named Christine and their cute donkey named Cherry Pie who loves tons of attention! Put them on your list of Michigan Petting Zoos to visit this year!

Come and See Farm is a non-profit, sustainable farm and garden where children, families and people of all abilities may come and learn home-based agricultural activities. They are located on eight acres in southwest Michigan.


12. Critter Barn - Hug Baby Animals in the Spring, Take a Tour and Pet Cute Animals!

This working farm in Zeeland is home to over 200 farm animals. It is really a neat farm to visit as you can pet their cute animals. One of the Michigan petting zoos open year round!

13. Dairy Discovery - Farm Tours, Camps, Feed Cows!

They offer camps and tours (by appointment only) Mon-Fri, April-October.    My nephew absolutely LOVED feeding the calves and learning how cows are milked by seeing the automated milkers in action.

Dairy Discovery also has many special events throughout the year such as Spring Break Bash and Christmas at the Farm.


14. Deer Tracks Junction - Michigan's Only Drive Through Animal Safari!

15. Deer Ranch in St. Ignace, Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Oldest Live Whitetail Exhibit in North America!

They offer kids camp, pony rides, petting zoos.  Duke Petting farm is open Memorial Day to Labor Day.  Come see their cute baby animals and play in the playground! Feed animals and take one for a walk!

18. Eagle River Park in Michigan's Upper Peninsula

NOT a petting zoo but this is neat: If you are in Michigan's Upper Peninsula near the Fitzgerald's restaurant in the winter, stop by Eagle River Park. Per my Mother-in-law (who lives in the area), during the winter herds of deer travel congregate in Eagle River as they are fed by tourists that stop at the rest stop. 


19. Evergreen Lane Creamery

Their cheeses are available mid-March through November. NOT a petting zoo, but you can enjoy their delicious cheese and pet their adorable goats!


20. Fellinlove Farm - Cute Holland Michigan petting zoo!

Hands on interactions with lots of animals! See beautiful horses, zebu cattle, pigs, yoga with goats, a lovely koi pond and so much more! Such a cute Holland Michigan petting zoo!


21. G&D Alpaca Boutique

22. Gaylord City Elk Park Viewing Area 

Gaylord City Elk Park Viewing Area - Golden Elk Ct, Gaylord, MI 49735

Not a petting zoo but worthy of mention. Because it's cool.

  • The City of Gaylord maintains an elk herd and provides viewing areas for the public to stop and watch about 40 elk.  The viewing area is just past the Elk’s Lodge off Grandview at Elk View Park.

The herd roams within 108 acres.  City staff feed the animals corn, hay and sugar beets, plus vitamins. 


23. Gibraltar Bay Alpacas

So many cute animals to see and pet at Grandpa Tiny's! I love sheep, goats, reindeer, peacocks, bunnies, cows, pigs, doves and chickens! One of our favorite Michigan petting zoos!



This adorable horse is the best!! I came to visit to him in the summer during their Sunflower Festival and again during Christmas at Santa's Reindeer Farm!  He seriously makes my day!


26. Grandma's Pumpkin Patch - Cute Turkey Talk, Cows and George the Llama!

30. Indian Creek Zoo

Feed the parakeets, pet the cute goats and enjoy the zoo! Open seasonally. A farm area is in the works, we are excited!!


31. Johnson's Pumpkin Farm

Chris and I love Johnson's Pumpkin Farm! They have a great fall car show that we enjoy attending and then wandering the corn maze.  They have fresh donuts, cider and other treats inside their shop. By the way, their store is also amazing. I bought a very cute Johnson's Farm truck for my entryway fall display!

Now, let me tell you about their animals. They have goats, chickens, alpaca, pigs and tons more! We love them!


32. Jolly Rogers Farm

So cute! Visit this small family farm to see Scottish Highland Cattle and you can even hold the chickens! Call head to check availability.


33. Kal-Haven Outpost Campground

Kal-Haven Outpost Campground (in South Haven) has two cute goats that love attention from visitors camping or just visiting.  


34. Kensington Metropark Farm Center - Cute Pigs, Horses and Chickens, Oh My!

Chris and I just love Kensington Metropark! Open year round, you can walk their trails, feed wild birds from your hands, go kayaking, biking, boating, golfing and so much more!

  • See live farm animals at Kensington Metropark's Farm Center! Enjoy chickens, goats, sheep, cattle and draft horses! Visit a 150-year old restored barn, the poultry house, and kids’ area.

During the spring and summer you can get up close to lovely sandhill cranes! It's also the time for BABIES at the Farm Center! So be sure to visit one of our favorite Michigan petting zoos!

Do you have to pay to get into Kensington Metropark? Yes, there is a fee per vehicle. 



But my favorite part is bringing our own bird food, holding my hand up like a Disney princess and waiting for the birds to land!  What fun! Their little feet feel so funny on your hands!


35. Leaman's Green Apple Barn

Leaman's Green Apple Barn is such a wonderful family run farm that is open in the fall and again at Christmastime.  Enjoy wagon rides, apple barrel express, corn maze shuttle, corn maze, playground, petting barnyard, ABC Maze, so so much more! 

Chris and I had such a fun time there this Christmas. See super cute Goats in Coats at Christmas! They also have sheep, a tiny cow and donkey. It's at the top of our list of Michigan petting zoos, for sure.


36. Lewis Adventure Farm & Zoo

Lewis Adventure Farm & Zoo Address - 4180 M-20, New Era, MI 49446.

We love the goats!  There's also alpacas, deer, camels, donkeys, capybara's, kangaroos. Oh, and you can feed the lemurs and the sloth experience is fun too.  Definitely see the bird aviary, you can feed the colorful birds from a stick. Lewis Farm also has a farm market during the summer months.


37. Lowry's Little Flock Farm (See Fuzzy Alpaca!)

Check out their homemade treats and alpaca wearables!  Lots of fuzzy and cute animals to pet, feed and love on including llamas! 


38. Marty’s Place for Animals

Marty's Place is a non-profit animal preserve/ sanctuary in Bruce Township, Michigan. They provide fun and educational interactions between humans and animals, offer volunteer opportunities, and it's a tranquil place for visitors to see cute animals such as deer, pigs, goats and bison. 

Marty's Place for Animals offer tours of any size by appointment so you can interact with the animals. 


39. Maybury Farm - Where Kids Can Learn About Farm Life!

Maybury Farm Address - 50165 Eight Mile Rd, Northville, MI 48167.

See cute farm animals such as goats, horses, alpaca, pigs and bunnies!  Their 85-acre property houses a farm-themed playground, picnic area, and general store, too. Maybury Farms has lots of events throughout the year, so be sure to check out Maybury Farm's Facebook page for all the details!

Check their website as they are only open during certain times and seasons. The farm will open the first two weekends in December for Santa Visit at the farm, in March for Maple Syrup, and then for the season (open Tues-Sun to the public) beginning in mid-April.


40. MOO-ville Creamery

Cute animals to feed and pet. Perfect place for animal experiences! (Petting zoo closed during the winter months as the animals are hanging out in their warm barn home!) 

MOO-ville Creamery's petting farm is FREE and you can see over 40 different farm animals including alpaca, goats, sheep, horses and more! You can buy feed cones to feed the animals which is a lot of fun!


41. New Creation Family Farm

  • Oooh they have cow cuddling in the spring! And possibly goat cuddling! Seriously!

43. Oswald’s Bear Ranch in Michigan's Upper Peninsula

Oswald’s Bear Ranch Addess - 13814 Co Rd 407, Newberry, MI 49868. Oswald's is a neat place for animal encounters in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It's not a petting zoo but a great place to visit.

Oswald's Bear Ranch is the largest (bear only) Bear Ranch in the entire United States of America. They have 40 bears, 2 huge habitats (1/2 and 1/3 mile perimeter) and 2 habitats (1/4 mile perimeter each). The yearling bears have a wonderful waterfall within their habitat.


44. Pan Equus Animal Sanctuary - Providing Care For Abused and Neglected Animals

Pan Equus Animal Sanctuary Address - 940 Hummer Lake Rd, Oxford, MI 48371.

You can volunteer to work there and they have open farm events where visitors can see their sweet farm animals including horses, cows, goats, pigs, sheep, chickens, ducks and peacocks!

Pan Equus Animal Sanctuary (PEAS) is an amazing animal sanctuary dedicated to providing care and comfort for abused and neglected animals at all stages of their life. The farm is operated entirely through donations and volunteers so they could use your help!


45. Peacock Road Family Farm

Come out in the fall to see and pet their cute pigs, goats and other fuzzy and feathery farm animals!

Their livestock barn is open year-round to visit their adorable goats and bunnies.  So cute!

Supe's is perfect for birthday parties and private tours; They are not walk-in and require reservations. 

When visiting Supe's Exotic Jungle, you can feed endangered ring-tailed lemurs, stingrays, an alligator, and colorful birds in the aviary.  See wallabies, emus, reptiles and amphibians, porcupines, and cute farm animals in the barnyard.  Makes for a lovely day with your kids!


49. The Creature Conservancy

See reindeer, horses, pythons, wolves, sloths, macaw, tortoises, and so much more! The Creature Conservancy offers events, field trips, tours, and camps.

Chris and I enjoy visiting The Wild Pumpkin in the fall as they have so many cute animals in their petting farm. You can see swans, peacocks, turkeys, sheep, ponies and goats. There are several quarter machines along the way for you to purchase some food that you can feed to the animals. Oh and their emu love to eat! See all of our favorite Michigan Pumpkin Farms!

Three Cedars Farm is a FANTASTIC place to visit in the fall with your family.  They have great donuts, apple cider, play area for the kids, super cute farm animals - the goats were my favorite!

They are not open to the public except during their Alpaca Day event in September. Check their website for details!

Open to the public the end of May through the end of November.  Go in a hen house and hold cute chickens, pet the horses, goats, sheep, cows, ducks, donkeys and more cute animals.  


54. Weiss Centennial Farm - Frankenmuth

Lots of farm activities, tours, and classes (cooking and baking).  Weiss Centennial Farm offers Public Dairy Farm Tours where you can visit the dairy farm! Very cool!

See their farm chores including feeding baby calves, spreading straw in hutches, stocking hay and filling water buckets. Plus there's planting season! Come see 21st century dairy farmers utilizing amazing technologies!


55. Wilderness Trails Zoo - Frankenmuth!

Open seasonally, beginning May 1st. Chris and I love it there! We've visited several times, especially in the spring when there is a good chance to see baby animals!

Enjoy 56 acres of exotic animals such as primates, zebras, lions, reptiles, and parrots. There is a petting area with the cutest goats ever and parakeet encounter for an up close and personal adventure.


56. White Lotus Farms

57. Wolcott Mill Farm Center

Open year round!  Come by the Wolcott Mill Farm Center to meet the cows, goats, sheep, pigs, horses, rabbits, geese, chickens and so many other sweet animals!  Enjoy seeing daily milking demonstrations in the Dairy Barn. Visit the greenhouse and gardens or, when available, take a horse-drawn wagon ride through the crop fields.

Robinette’s Apple Haus & Winery, 3142 4 Mile Rd NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525. The incredibly cute petting zoo will be at Robinette's each Sunday (weather permitting) in September and October from 12 pm-4 pm. The petting zoo is free and pony rides are $7 each. So much fun for Michigan kids and families!
