Lord Mayor Christian Ude and the German Parliament from Munich gave the proclamation in 1996. It stated that Frankenmuth's Oktoberfest was the first Oktoberfest to operate with the blessing of the original Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. With this proclamation, Frankenmuth's Oktoberfest was moved to September to coincide with the opening of the Munich event. Also, for the first time in history, the Hofbrauhaus brewery of Munich exported their beer to the United States. What an honor! The Hofbrauhaus became the official beer sponsor of the Frankenmuth Oktoberfest in 1997. Cool, huh!
Since Frankenmuth has such a unique German heritage and culture, it's the perfect place to celebrate a Michigan Oktoberfest! Frankenmuth Oktoberfest strives to preserve the sights and sounds of the Munich Oktoberfest. Enjoy authentic entertainment, dancing, German bands, Oktoberfest souvenirs, food, and authentic Hofbrauhaus Oktoberfest beer.
