What is the most Christmassy town in Michigan? | Mid-Michigan Region

Well, I'd have to say Frankenmuth Michigan! This lovely town, located on the east side of the state, has horse drawn carriages, lovely Cass river views and TONS of incredible shopping experiences! You can shop in the Bavarian Inn, along S. Main Street and of course, the River Place Shops.

You'll find buy fudge, popcorn, wine, cherries, cheese, pet gifts, apparel and so much more at lovely boutiques! Of course, you must visit Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, the largest Christmas store in the world! Frankenmuth is one of my favorite Michigan Christmas towns!

WOW!  Chris and I absolutely love visiting Henry Ford's Greenfield Village during Holiday Nights each December!  This Michigan holiday festival is a wonderful way to get into the Christmas mood! It's a great couples date night event and it's also a perfect family holiday event.

Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village, a prime Christmas event in the Detroit area, offers a unique 'things to do in Southeast Michigan' experience. Spanning over 80 acres, this festive celebration in Dearborn, MI, immerses visitors in traditional Americana. Stroll down Main Street, enjoy the holiday ambiance, and partake in Christmas activities, including carol singing.

Crossroads Village is an incredible living history museum located in Genesee County, Michigan, near Flint. Ride the Huckleberry railroad steam train (perfect event and experience for kids!), pop into historic shops and explore the village.

We absolutely love visiting Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad each winter season. It's a fantastic way to get into the Christmas Spirit! The buildings are all decorated for Christmas, making it a lovely Hallmark Town to visit this Christmas.


You can wander Crossroads village while munching on warm crunch almonds, enjoy listening to the sounds of Christmas carols and peeking into historic buildings along the way. 

Be sure to book your tickets ahead of time so you can ride the Huckleberry steam train and enjoy a yummy buffet dinner.

Speaking of Christmas Lights, you've got to see the incredible Rochester Michigan Christmas Lights this year! 

What is the Rochester Light Show? The buildings in Downtown Rochester Michigan are draped with thousands of twinkling lights! You can drive your car down Main Street to enjoy the lights from the warmth of your vehicle or park, walk, and see the lights up close!

Where is the Rochester light show? Right in downtown Rochester along  S. Main Street!  The Big Bright Light Show is absolutely incredible! 

And the Best Part?

It's free!  Either drive or walk though the downtown area!

What time do the Christmas lights come on in Rochester Mi? November through the end of January!

If you really want to get into the Christmas spirit, you will love driving through Fifth Third Ball Park's fantastic lighted display! Bring along travel mugs of hot cocoa for a lovely Christmas feel! There is a fee.


9. Wayne County Lightfest in Hines Park | Best Drive Thru Christmas Lights in Southeast Michigan | Metro Detroit

Where: 7651 N Merriman Rd, Westland, MI 48185. The Lightfest entrance is on Merriman Road between Ann Arbor Trail and Warren Avenue, 2 1/2 miles south of I-96.

Are you ready to be wowed by incredible light displays? Southeast Michigan Wayne County Lightfest in Hines Park is magical four-mile stretch with 50 animated themed displays and more than 100,000 lights to impress even the biggest Scrooge! 

What time is the Hines Park light show? The Wayne County Lightfest will be open Wednesday - Sunday from Thursday, November 16, 2023 until Sunday, December 24, 2023 from 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM. The Lightfest will be closed Monday and Tuesday evenings.

How much does it cost to see the lights at Hines Park? The fee is $5 cash per car.

How long does it take to drive through Wayne County Lightfest? It takes about 25 minutes to drive through these lovely Christmas lights.

10. Blake's Holiday Extravaganza | Family Friendly Event with Shopping and Photos with Santa | Southeast Michigan

Where: 350 Estate Drive, Rochester, Michigan 

Chris and I LOVE LOVE touring Meadow Brook Hall during the day AND night! We highly recommend it!!

What to Expect:

  1. During the afternoon, embark on an indoor one hour "Holiday Walk" to see Santa (and maybe his elves?).  Tour the inside of the historic mansion that is all decked out with incredible Christmas decor!  Meadow Brook hall boasts 50 sparkling Christmas trees, several roaring fireplaces, a 10-foot tall Poinsettia tree created by 150 live plants, dazzling trimmings, and lights galore!
  2. Then at night, return for their "Winter Wonder Lights" which is an outdoor walk with Christmas music,  seasonal treats and holiday magic in celebration of Christmas.  AND I hear you can buy glow-in-the-dark cotton candy and hot cocoa?! How fun is that? 


12. Be WOWED By Michigan's Official Christmas Tree | Lansing Michigan State Capitol

Get a head start on your holiday cheer! The Lansing State Capitol tree is placed on the front lawn about two months before Christmas!  It's absolutely magical at night so be sure to check it out! We took this photo during a tour of the Lansing State Capitol

The 2023 Christmas tree is a 60-foot Christmas tree donated by Victor Ruppert of Onaway in memory of his late wife.

Tree Lighting and Community Sing with Grace West: Gather by the 60 foot Michigan State Capitol Christmas Tree after the parade for the tree lighting and community sing.

Firefly Drone Light Show: After Grace West’s performance, cast your eyes to the sky as 200 drones perform a breathtaking Firefly Drone Light Show that is in time to lively Christmas music. Drones will be in the Capitol area.

Fireworks:  Get ready to be wowed by splashes of colorful fireworks over the Capitol.  Don't forget to ooohhh and ahhh!

Enjoy a horse drawn wagon ride, see street entertainment and grab a meal at their several food stops along the way.
