It all depends on the weather and your location in Michigan!

  • How it can vary: If you are visiting Michigan's Upper Peninsula, the trees will change about 3 weeks earlier than if you were visiting lower Michigan.

Answer: Per the American Forests Blog, leaves get their green color from a chemical called chlorophyll.  Tree leaves also have orange and yellow pigments called carotenoids.

During the warmer months, these colors are masked by all the chlorophyll active inside the leaves.

However...as temperatures begin to drop in the fall, chlorophyll production is reduced so reds, yellows and oranges are revealed.  Cool, huh!

Calling all lighthouse fanatics!! The Alpena Light or fondly nicknamed Sputnik or Little Red is a gorgeous lighthouse located on Lake Huron in Alpena, Michigan. Standing on the north breakwater of Alpena Harbor, the light marks the entrance to the Thunder Bay River from Thunder Bay. The steel skeletal style lighthouse is viewable from Alpena’s boat harbor, breakwall or during a shipwreck tour. The Alpena Light was erected in 1914, replacing earlier wooden structures that guided ships to safe port since the late 1800’s. Little Red was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. . . . #visitalpena #thunderbay #alpena#alpenamichigan #lighthouse #lighthousesofmichigan #lighthousesofinstagram #lakehuron#puremichigan #michigan#michiganders#greatlakesstateofmind#greatlakesstate #gogreatlakesbay#michigander#sanctuaryofthegreatlakes#michigantravel #onlyinmichigan#michiganstate #travelphotography
