YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS being a part of sweet, sweet history by posing in front of the former World's Largest Cherry Pie? I mean it's concrete and all (preservatives can only last for so long, sooo).
In 1976 Dave Phillips talked several local businesses around Charlevoix into helping create the world’s biggest cherry pie. After building a massive pie pan, and constructing an oven large enough to bake the delicious dessert, the town successfully baked a 17,420-pound cherry pie during the its annual cherry festival.
About 7,000 people were served somewhere around 10,000 slices of record-breaking pie. DANG!!
The pie held onto the record for just over 10 years. Then, in 1987, Traverse City was jealous and though, "hey, we are the ones known for our cherry trees, what the heck!" (Or it went something like that). Anyway, Traverse City made a larger cherry pie that weighed in at 28,350 pounds.
How cool is that??!? THEN, Canada was green eyed with envy so of course they had to outdo us a few years later. Boo.
Here is a map of Earl Young's Mushroom Houses in Charlevoix, MI! What a fun scavenger hunt to find each of these houses!
