Michigan has it all: Mild to wild outdoor activities, an exceptional arts culture, creative to daring cuisines, world class wineries and rockin' festivals.  If climbing, hiking, boating, skiing and skydiving isn't your thing, well, I'm sure we'll find a tour, museum, restaurant or event that will rock your world.  Stick with us!

We have listed lots of exciting things to do in Michigan separately by each month. At this time, we have omitted dates as they change and we would hate to give you incorrect info.  Simply visit the specific website for the events you are interested in to obtain further information.

January Things to Do Michigan

  1. Detroit Auto Show NAIAS-Mid January.  Here's your chance to see and sit in a variety of vehicles and electric cars from around the world.  Be wowed by the displays!
  2. Plymouth Ice Festival-One of the largest free ice festivals in Michigan.  Be sure to check out the lit ice gardens in the evenings. 
  3. Kalamazoo Beer Week-This exciting week long series features tastings, dinners and interactive events.  The cool thing is, you will get a chance to meet many of the brewers.
  4.  Dark and Stormcloudy Flim Series, Frankfort, MI-This series combines award-winning films with tasty small batch beers that were handcrafted specifically for each movie selection. 
  5. Zehnders Snowfest in Frankenmuth, MI-Bring the whole family to enjoy snow sculpting and ice carving competitions.  There will be a warming tent, entertainment, children's area and fireworks.
  6. Downtown Kalamazoo Restaurant Week, Kalamazoo, MI
  7. Holland Outdoor Winter Market-first and third Saturdays Jan-April.  Fill bags with winter squash, root vegetables and dried beans.
  8. Tip-Up Town USA-Houghton Lake, MI, Fishermen pull a variety of fish from the lake for prizes.  Are your brave enough to jump in the lake during the Polar Bear Dip?
  9. Winterfest-Grand Haven (end of January).  Create and decorate a colorful cardboard sled and join in on the sled races!
  10. Ann Arbor Folk Festival-Hill Auditorium, (end of January). Can you say banjo's, fiddles and double bass, oh my?!  
  11. Soo International 500 Snowmobile Race-Sault Ste. Marie.  Watch a fun snowmobile race just for kids!  Then it gets serious as professional drivers race their snowmobiles around a one mile track. 

February Things to Do Michigan

  1. Michigan International Auto Show, DeVos place, Grand Rapids.
  2. Michigan Tech Winter Carnival-This fantastic winter celebration features snow statues, broom ball, human ice bowling, comedy skits and a Queen coronation.  
  3. Treetops Beer & Wine Festival, Gaylord, MI
  4. International 500 Snowmobile Race, Sault Ste. Marie
  5. Charlevoix Ground Hog Shadow Fest-Soup cook off, games, beer tent and live music.
  6. Ice Breaker, South Haven, MI-Ice Sculptures, snowsuit fashion contest, horse-drawn, wagon rides, chili cook-off and cardboard sled race.
  7. North American Snow Festival, Cadillac, MI
  8. Magical Ice Festival, St. Joseph, MI-Fire & Ice tower display and party, ice wars, magical ice thrown and magic performances.  Always the first weekend in February.
  9. 906 Polar Roll-Marquette County's Winter Fat Tire Racing with a big after-party!
  10. Annual Detroit Camper RV Show, Suburban Collection Showplace, Novi, MI-Check out more than 280 RV's, Campers, Motor homes and toy haulers.
  11. The Detroit Boat Show Cobo Center, Detroit, MI-One of the largest boat shows in Michigan.
  12. Winter Beer Festival, Fifth Third Ball Park, Comstock Park (North of Grand Rapids)-This exciting festival features more than 125 Michigan breweries and brewpubs.
  13. Monster Jam Ford Field, Detroit, MI-Cheer on your favorite Monster Truck.

March Things To Do Michigan

  1. Butterflies Are Blooming, Frederik Meijer Gardens Grand Rapids, MI-Be wowed by 7000 tropical Butterflies of 50 different species.  Generally runs from March 1-end of April.
  2. Butterflies In Bloom, Dow Gardens Midland, MI-Enjoy colorful Butterflies from around the world as they emerge from their chrysalis and fly around the tropically environment. Plus a craft barn!  Photographers: It's best to call to ahead to see if a school group is planned that day.  Generally the entire month of March-Mid April.
  3. The Detroit Zoo- The Wildlife Interpretive Gallery has hundreds of butterflies! The Zoo purchases about 250 butterfly pupae (chrysalises) each week for you to enjoy! The habitat is open year-round and is free with Zoo admission. Don't miss their behind-the-scenes experience called Breakfast with the Butterflies which gives you a great chance to learn more about butterflies. The Detroit Zoo is located at 8450 W. 10 Mile Road, Royal Oak, MI 48067
  4. Autorama-Detroit, Cobo Center. Check out sweet rides, vendors and eats! We love this show!
  5. Monster Truck Events-Monster Jam is in Detroit (Ford Field) and Grand Rapids (Van Andel Arena). Toughest Monster Trucks in Saginaw (Dow Event Center). Cheer on your favorite Monster Truck!
  6. Suds and Snow, Traverse City, MI-Numerous vendors posting 100+ brews wine and cider.  Includes half mile hike through backwoods of Timber Ridge Resort for live music and food vendors.  
  7. Brew-Ski Festival, Boyne Highlands in Harbor Springs
  8. Southern Michigan Winter Beer Festival, Jackson County Fairgrounds in Jackson
  9. Marquette Brewski, Forestville Traihead and Campground in Marquette

Kick off the National Cherry Festival with the Air Show, mircobrews, as well as the finest BBQ around!  Classic car shows, Midway, Blue Angels Air show, Cherry Pancake Breakfast, Arts and Crafts fair, Parades and Cherry Farmers Market.

Tour the Tawas Point Lighthouse-Tawas, Every Tuesday in June, July and August, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm, the Friends of the Tawas Point Lighthouse and State Park will be welcoming visitors to the lighthouse for a donation.  Visitors are free to tour the lighthouse, ask questions, and climb the tower.  A Recreation Passport is required to enter the State Park.
